First Time Sailing

4/8-9 (Sat. - Sun.) Washington Yatch Club at UW offers navice sailing class.
Summary: Bad. I am not a natural born sailor, for sure. Fun, very fun, will keep trying.
Day 1: FJ class, doublehanded. Partner was a instructor: saved my ass. 18 knots of wind for beginners. Flipped once. Water cold, having fleece on did not help much.
Day 2: No wind (< 2knots at times). Lost my partner so had to rig FJ for singlehanded (no jib). Frustrating: laser class and other in FJ class were sailing like kids’ remotely controlled sailboat on a smooth pond. I had no sense where the wind came from therefore had no idea what to do with sail or rudder. I did have the talent of always heading in the iron (dead against the wind). Instructor gave up on me. Sad. Did get handson navice rating (Yahoo!) once complete written test, can go sailing by my own!
