Scandals in China’s Academia

Published by Forager at 12:46 pm under China, state-society

NPR Morning Edition 6/5 reported on recent scandals in China’s universities. Started by Chen Jian, a classmate of Zhang Bin–ha!

Anyway, one scholar advocated academic independence from state interference (the government is said to control or have strong influence on research subjects, etc.) The other, one prof. in Indiana Univ. (?) signed a letter petitioning government to establish agencies to monitor fraud. Apparently they have not talked with each other.

I supposed the letter goes:
Dear Government, please choose some of us to monitor the rest of us. Otherwise, we will all rot and corrupt together. Please, this is urgent!
Sincerely,
All of Us
