China’s View on Sino-US Relations

Published by Forager at 1:50 am under China, politics

Foreign Affairs article. Wang Jishi

Author: Son of Wang Li (王力, 字了一), a great Chinese Language scholar in the 1940s.

Quotes:
“So long as the United States’ image reminas tainted, China will have greater leverage in multilateral settings.”

“Tokyo is wary of Beijing’s growing role in the region and does not want to cooperate with any attempts to create regional structures that would exclude the United States.”

“In terms of state-to-state affairs, China and the US cannot hope to establish truly friendly relations.”

“… trying to view the [sino-us relation] in traditional zero-sum terms is a mistake and will not guide policy well.”

—Overall a pretty bannal article. Thoughts still pretty issue-centric. Lack of a coherent underlying theory or vision.
