Quick Notes before I Forget
1. The Ji Ji (季季) story: Taiwanese female writer married to an attractive, brilliant author who later abused her, her family’s trust and went on a self-destructing path. It turned out many years after their divorce that he was a Communist spy sent to the island and had been tortured and forced into betraying friends. I thought 色戒 was moving, until I saw this la Tragédie humaine. Speechless.
2. The Joyce Hatto Hoax. The New Yorker story was engaging but the Wiki entry concise and straightforward. It looks like Ms. Hatto was a so-so pianist but she and her husband have excellent taste in picking out unique performances for many piano works. A good reference if I want to upgrade my collections.
